How I made my 'N is for Netting' Layout III

This formidable looking character is called Eliza Sharp and she is a distant relative born in 1836. I discovered her through my family tree research via Genes Reunited and was sent this photograph.

I decided to make a layout with the photo as my page for the August Design Team this month.

We are scraplifting this delightful layout by 2Dogs

I used Webster's Pages - Everyday Poetry collection - die cut, Glorious Day and Little Bird Told Me.

And this is what I did:

With the die cut paper and Douglas Fir Bazzill, I cut and added strips of cardstock around the edges and trimmed them with scallop edge scissors.  

I cut images from patterned papers, choosing all the cages, 2 butterflies, the bird, blossom branch and the butterfly chart.

From the rest of the Little Bird paper I cut 2 circles – 4” and 5”. Then I cut 2 more circles from Scout Card about 1.5” bigger than the others. I used a Martha Stewart corner punch to decorate the Scout circles, creating a lacy edge.  

I inked the circles and mounted paper circles onto card circles then placed them on to the layout where required. I mounted the photo over larger circle.

I stuck a 3” strip of lace to the top left corner and ‘hung’ a cage from it – using 3D foam pads to attach to the layout. Then added the other cages to the bottom right of the layout. Then I arranged the other items to the page. 

For each net bow, I took a 12” piece of netting and tie in a bow and stick to the page with glue.I cut the lettering with Cricut and stuck to layout.

Finally I decorate the lettering and scalloped border with the mint green liquid pearls, adding little dots to create the effect of a pearl swirl over the top right of the photo and onto the layout.

How I made my March page

 I used three sheets of Basic Grey Curio, from Cardinal Colours those flowers go a very long way! - I ended up with some over, so will make a card, or use them on another layout.

I used curio cotton (pink for background),

Ophelia for scraps behind background and flowers,

and then Camellia for more flowers and to cut the circle.

Using some bazzill (dark chocolate) as a base for my layout and gutted it to give me some over for mounting my photo later. I trimmed my cotton patterned paper down to roughly 11x11" with tattered torn edges. I tore further into the paper in a couple of places. All the edges were inked before placing onto the bazzill. I tore a couple of pieces from the Ophelia paper and tucked these into the spaces, so the turquoise flower base pattern shows through.

With a circle cut from the pink geometric side of the Camellia paper, I mounted my photo on some bazzill and cut round with some scalloped scissors. I arranged these onto the layout, but before sticking down the edges of  the circle I added the lace (only where it will show, to prevent too much bulk under the photo). I used less than half a yard of antique style lace.

Then came the cutting and layering of the flowers. The print is exactly the same on both sheets, the background is simply a different colour. I cut lots of flowers, and arranged the first layer into place. For the next two layers I curved them with my scissor blade, and added them with 3D Sticky Fixers foam pads to add dimension.

Further dimension was added by painting the finished flowers with Glossy Accents.

I used stickles - 'Tiara' to dot around on big circle and 'Distress - Frayed Burlap' for stamen, and liquid pearls 'Perfect pink' for dots on photo mat.

The text is from a tatty secondhand poetry book, I distressed it further with some chalk inks.

The title was cut from the bazzill scraps using the Storybook Cartridge for the Cricut.

How I made my January page

Here is how I made my double layout using the sketch we chose from Jana Eubank.

Linda and I both used a collection pack from My Mind's Eye called 'I Believe' available from Jill at Cardinal Colours. This kit contains 9 sheets of double-sided patterned paper, many of which can be used for non- Christmas layouts as well and seasonal papers. The papers have some glitter on them too. There is also a sheet of die cut card shapes.

I picked two sheets of 12"x12" Bazzill Bling cardstock in red, which I gutted to leave a frame of at least 1" around all four sides, this gave me spare card for mounting my photos later.

The polka dot paper was cut in two pieces measuring 5"x11" each.  These were mounted to leave half an inch of red cardstock showing at the top and in from both sides of the cardstock.

 Two pieces 6"x11" were cut from the thin stripe paper and these were mounted in the same way on the bottom of each page.

I cut the paper with trees and deer to 9"x12" and mounted them across both pages cutting down the centre vertically, and matching both halves back up before sticking down.

Then with diagonal red striped paper was cut into two pieces, both to measure 5.5"x11.5" and stuck them centrally across both pages.

I cut a narrow strip in green (approx. 10"x1" for left page and 12"x1" for the right) and trimmed them with the Martha Stewart holly border punch.  I added this along the bottom of the the diagonal stripe paper. I added a few dots of liquid Pearls in red for berries.

The journalling blocks were made by cutting one of the die cut shapes into two and adding half to each page. The Title is created with American Craft Thickers in glittery red. The small letter tiles are stickers left over from another layout. I added the journalling detail by hand, and decorated the blocks with red gems.

The three landscape photos were trimmed and mounted on red cardstock. The one 4"x6" portrait photo was mounted on mint paper leaving a wide border at the bottom. I attached ribbon and a charm.

Linda cut flowers from a sheet of patterned paper to make a seasonal wreath around the photos.

There was a lot of paper left after making the double layouts so we made mini albums too. We will share these with you later in the month.
